When a Trusted Friend Sustains Shock

When a trusted friend sustains shock, it may show the relationship in a different light.

Where you assigned certain roles to each of you, there may be a sudden and shocking change.

Maybe you were the strong one, maybe they were.

Maybe you were the parent, maybe you were the child.

Do you treat the situation differently for a friend than for a trusted relative?

Whenever a strong event triggers a change, or when a change surfaces violently, it can be shocking to both parties.

What is your role in such a case?

Do you resent it?

Is it simply too much to bear?

Is it part of a pattern from the past which was never addressed or healed ?

Do you rush in to comfort, aid, nurture?

Is the other person supposed to be the nurturer?

The roles we have assigned ourselves and others certainly do change over time.

We never know what the tipping point may be.

But we do know the eternal things, the love, the joy, the intelligence, the humor, the dedication are still there, even though the shocking event may have ignited a rupture.

It is certainly a hard thing to ask, but can we move beyond the shock, the betrayal, to what endures?

Can we acknowledge the bedrock underneath and the many years of strength before the crash?

Can we give ourselves and the other party time and space to recover?

Can we reconsider?

Knowing Life

There is information and there is life.

The type of information we like to know relates to what we do and who we know and what we and they are doing.

At one point, when I was missing information about a family member, I thought about what I might actually be hearing.

I realized it was those common everyday happenings that I missed.

So, I made some up.

I realized that whether or not they applied didn’t matter.

It was just that I could make them up, and that I could either be satisfied with what I was being told or with what I made up.

So then it didn’t mater to me.

Since I was still out of the loop and it made me sad, I listened for a healing and uplifting thought.

Two thoughts were given to me.

The first one was that I could be happy anyway.

The second one was gratitude.

So every time I thought about my missing person, I reminded myself that it was OK to be happy anyway.

And then I just thought and breathed gratitude until I was as full as I could be.

I just kept practicing this until it became a part of me which I can depend on instead of letting my happiness depend on whether information was being shared or withheld.

The strongest lessons are not easy, but they are the most powerful.

With Deliberate Calm

Move with deliberate calm.

You can change the way you go about your day.

Instead of rushing, give yourself an extra moment to take a deep breath.

This is your life priority.

Anything that agitates you, disturbs you, upsets you has to wait.

It is not urgent, even though that is how it affects you.

The one priority is that first affirmative breath.

It is a breath of inspiration, a breath of peace which sets up your day.

With the first calming breath, you lay a foundation for your day.

That acknowledges the inner guidance at the core of your life, before the emotional persuasion tactics have an opportunity.

Then when the agitation, disturbance, upset does show up, you already have your inner calmness which naturally creates your outer calmness.

that lets you consider what yo are hearing instead of just reacting to it.

Instead of the emotional persuasion, you have a clam inner peace at your core.

You can be deliberate.

You can consider what you are hearing.

You can think.

And then, you can respond, intelligently, compassionately, generously, with deliberate calm.

The Contagion of Peace

There is an addiction to peace which comes when we practice it so naturally, we do not allow anything else in our individual lives.

We gravitate naturally toward peace when the feeling of disruption becomes too painful.

We look for ways to cultivate it in our life.

Once we have a train of thought which moves towards peace, it attracts more and more peaceful moments.

At some point, it just feels weird to have something other than peace come up.

A truly peaceful mind establishes a truly peaceful life.

I am grateful when someone reminds me of the availability of peace.

I am also glad when I can share the peace I am feeling.

I love it when a movement toward peace begins.

That means that peace has become a consensus in the minds of enough people that it is a natural goal and a natural way to proceed.

Enough people practicing and sharing peace makes it a kind of contagion in which we do want to participate.

To Create Peace

In order to create peace, I start with my own life.

In order to create peace, everyone I know starts with their own life.

In order to create peace, everyone I don’t even know, all over the planet, starts with their own life.

————————

To start, I take a deep breath.

I will move with calm today.

I will not be rushed.

I will find the peaceful things around me to appreciate, how beautiful the clouds are, a lovely drive in the country, now nice for someone to hold the door for me.

I will let my appreciation and my peace expand.

I will be patient with myself and with others.

I will listen attentively in conversation.

I will be grateful for good work, for politeness, for sincerity.

I will look at the world with imagination.

I will expect solutions to appear for all of us.

And I will imagine that everyone is creating more peace in their life, too.

To Live for Self of For Principle

To live for self or for principle?

An important question.

Living for self can be quite gratifying.

It is easy to make decisions based on who will benefit.

Living for self attunes you to larger, bigger, stronger, more powerful “selfs”.

Because all you feel is your own want, your own self, you can easily be overpowered by a larger “self”.

You want what this larger “self” can give you.

————-

Living for principle gives you a wider view.

It gives you compassion.

It is easy to make decisions based on who will benefit.

Living for principle attunes you to those who live with this expansive view.

Because all you feel is principle, you can easily be powered by more compassion, more generosity.

You want what this larger view can give you.

Choose.

The Most Peaceful Life

The most peaceful life can be very exciting.

It involves being very honest with yourself and discovering what you would most love to do.

If this does not align with what the rest of the world expects you to do, you will have to decide just how you want to live, anyway.

If you admit that what you would love to do is the most important thing to you, you will be led to take the steps to get there.

This will be a very exciting thing to do, because you love it.

It will also be the most peaceful life you can live because you will not be in conflict with yourself.

You will build your lifework from the beginning.

Your heart’s deep desire is what you were put here to express.

There is a place for you as long as you are building from your deep sense of joy and identity.

Your life direction will attract those who can both help you and those who will benefit from what you love to do.

What a great way to build your life!
