Intensity and Laughter

I was in a very intense mode, as I processed various things that were happening in my life.

I became aware that this process was making my body very tense, and that it was not a healthy line to pursue.

After a short conversation with my husband, resulting in a continuity of tension, (which he had nothing to do with), I changed course.

When he commented, I cracked a pun.

That set us both to laughing, which, of course, broke my tension.

I have decided that, although some things may be as true as it is possible to be, they are not worth thinking about.

I can move myself into a place of happiness and laughter, and as trite as that may sound, it is actually a very wonderful practice.

If I have a choice about what to think about, and I always do, I can choose the happy thing.

At one recent point in my life, I was up against a situation which I could not affect in any way whatsoever.

I was finally given a message.

Anytime I thought about it, I was to chant “gratitude, gratitude, gratitude” to myself.

I found I was able to do that.

After another couple of months, there was a change in the situation which I did not initiate.

When I think about it at all, I chant the message back to myself, and I am able to go on with whatever I need or choose to do.

That is freeing, but I enjoy the laughter even more.

Your Own Small Cooperative

Who are the people you would live to live next door?

What are they like?

What skills do they have?

How do their skills compliment your skills?

In order to live a much less pressured life, what services do you need to have done?

Can you imagine four families sharing all the responsibilities that one family has to take care of?

When a group of say, four families begins to look at what they can do in a cooperative agreement, the pressures on each of them begin to adjust in a more balanced way.

Keep building this ideal and watch your life begin to shift in a less pressured direction.

Simple Skills

I am grateful for the simple skills I have learned.

Everyone I know is grateful for the simple skills they have learned.

Everyone I don’t even know, all over the planet, is grateful for the simple skills they have learned.

————————

I have been hand-sewing some “spiritual treasure” bags I started a while back.

I knitted the bags, then stitched alining in them, added a shoulder strap and a pocket.

It gives me peaceful joy.

I will add a meditation written on affirmation cards to each bag.

Drawing on inspiration complements the simple skills of knitting and hand-sewing.

Make simple gifts is a gift in itself.

Rev. Holliwell and the Law of Attraction

I am rereading “Working with the Law” by Rev. Holliwell.

It is about the eighth or ninth time.

This time I read it from the last Law, forward.

When I came to the Law of Attraction, I was very interested in his combination of the words “desire and expectation”.

He says to “consistently expect that which your persistently desire”.

I felt a sense of conviction behind the idea of persistence and consistency.

He continues that “your ability to attract becomes irresistible”.

I think it is the fact that I was first introduced to this book about ten years ago, and that I keep coming back to it, to be a convincing statement of its effectiveness in my life.

Halliwell talks about our having “mental equipment” and “inner power”.

I am so grateful to hear about this power and where it is located.

Our Western culture is so media driven that it feels as though we have to crowd out a lot in order to even hear our own desires.

Knowing that I can be consistent and persistent about expecting the fulfillment of my desire gives me good work to do.

I can use my “mental equipment” and “inner power” to accomplish my desires.

And yes, I can accomplish them.

Now that I am listening inwardly and admitting them to myself, I realize they have never changed.

I can consistently and persistently attract my desires.

What are My Original Thoughts?

How important are your original thoughts?

Well, they are evidence of your individuality.

In a culture where we are bombarded with so many mass media messages, your original thoughts are very important.

They are vital to your life.

They are what can direct you and bring you a uniquely enjoyable and and satisfying and successful life.

They can connect you to your soul-mate.

They can invent a truly terrific and fulfilling occupation.

They can create a home where you feel very loved and expressive.

It is important to get to know yourself from within.

That is where your original thoughts are.

You can access them by simply listening.

Slowing down and sitting quietly and becoming calm.

You will feel their presence.

It is a gentle sense of being who you really are.

Even though you may be good at what you do, and you chose your life’s direction for really good reasons, it is a different experience to feel your wholly original thoughts.

It is a wholly different experience to feel your life directed by them.

Divine Calm

I found myself in a room with several people including two whiney little kids.

I watched their mom interact with them, and also an experienced teacher friend.

Their demands were self-indulgent and making everyone else uncomfortable.

I finally reached out and asked myself the question, “What does Divine Calm feel like in this situation?

I just kept asking the question and listening for the answer.

Finally, I realized the volume of the requests had dropped way, way down, and the intrusive activities had moved to another room.

Even though the behavior did not get redirected, it became self-contained.

Everyone else was able to continue conducting their business.

A few minutes later, the children were able to go home.

I have used this question since then several times.

I always reorients me in a different direction.

I have learned not to try to predict results or to direct the action.

The situation always gets taken care of outside of my opinion or interference.

Small Commitments

Honoring small commitments will bring unexpected benefits.

Ahead of a quilt guild meeting, I ordered some cotton clothesline to make a basket.

At the beginning of the meeting, I found I had what I needed to work on a different project, so I decided not to get the clothesline.

Later, during the meeting, I realized that I had made the commitment to buy it, and even though the guild member said she would be able to use it, I decided to follow through on my commitment.

I didn’t use the clothesline for  that project, but I did need it to set up the brake for my weaving loom a couple of months later.

I was grateful that I had what I needed in what turned out to be ahead of time.

I have no idea what other specific things have been made convenient for me by honoring my small commitments.

Some, I suspect, have to do with repeated practice.

I know the benefits I have received in music from honoring lots of small commitments while learning to play an instrument well.

I am finding the long-term benefits in honoring my small commitments in spiritual practice.

Honoring small commitments can become a really good habit.
