Growing Up

This is the first time, as a whole nation, that we are being told that we don’t matter, that what we want is not important.

We have been told that before, in groups - Indians, women, African-Americans, and now Muslims.

Since we grow up learning the words and the meaning behind the words of The Constitution, this goes against the grain of our lives.

“We, the People” is a deep, deep concept.

“Inalienable rights to the pursuit of happiness” is behind all of our education.

The morality of taking care of everyone has grown beyond individual compassion, through churches, through charities, through businesses whose motive is to uplift.

The idea of BIG Business being so completely self-centered goes against the American grain.

Because it has come to light through so many different avenues of corruption, the contrast is very stark to the innate purity of the concepts we learn as school children and practice in our every day lives.

America has reached its adolescence.

It is time to prove “what we hold to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”.

It is time for practices which promote those values be proven in every aspect of our government as well as of our individual lives.

It is time to confront the practices of separation and redirect ourselves to inclusion and interdependence so that everyone may live better and better.

There are strong ways to do this where everyone is valued.

It is time for all of us to grow up.
