Learning Another Language

When you learn another language, you are saying to someone in another country that they are important to you.

You are saying that you want to communicate with them.

You are saying that is is important enough to you to understand their culture that you will put the effort into learning their language.

You are acknowledging that you are not the center of the universe.

You are acknowledging that other people and other cultures are important.

You are seeing your place in the world and in the universe in relationship to everyone else on the planet, and in the universe.

Your perspective goes beyond what you are surrounded by in your daily life.

You are interested and curious about the world outside your daily routine.

You are willing to take a look to discover other points of view.

You are willing to take your first steps in understanding someone else’s perspective on you and your culture.

You make room for the importance of other people in other cultures.

You see how they live through a more individual and intimate view as you learn their language.

You go deeper into your understanding and ability to observe more closely and compassionately.

For some reason it is always an uplifting and uplifting and joyous experience when you begin to be able to communicate in another’s language.

There is always a spark of appreciation that you would take the time and effort to invest yourself in another’s language.

Communication is joy, and understanding through joy is sharing a celebration.
